Social Music Mashups
Ideated January 3rd, 2011
The "casual" musician is more prevalant today than ever. Ever since Garageband has been bundled in the the Mac OS, anyone and everyone has easy to use tools to create music rapidly. Other music creating applications have caught on, and have made their products more intuitive and easier to understand.

I propose a site with two major versions:

V1: Allows people to answer the question "What music are you working on?"  People can upload a snippet of music they would like to share. These clips can be tagged (BPM, Time signature, keywords, "sounds like"). In turn, other's can listen, provide feedback and direction, or upload a "response" to this original clip. Then, people can make their own mashups of clips from the community. For example, Robert has a cool synth clip, George has a groovy bass line, and Jim has a catchy guitar hook. In the site's "mix mode", you can layout the clips by Robert, George, and Jim on a timeline to create, save and share your own custom mashup by user-generated music.

V2: Taking music making to the cloud. Garageband is great, but it's not in the cloud. I'd like to turn the site into a full featured music creating web app. Collaborate real time with your producer or band mates on new music ideas. Non- destructively edit your tracks by applying community-generated filters and effects. Add new sound packs to your projects from the strong community "sound" marketplace. Bounce your music to your hard disc or share on your favorite social network. Music creation will never be the same in the cloud.
