Distributed computing
Ideated December 10th, 2013
The idea is to create a simplified tablet device that consists only of input (touch or other), display, and wifi/cellular communication. Acting similar to a KVM switch, you could connect to a centrally based cpu giving you all the power of a desktop in a portable, mobile device.  At its simplest the only tech on the tablet would be a display driver, input, and communications making for a smaller lighter device with much lower power consumption. CPU, GPU, RAM, HD, WAN/LAN would all be contained in the base unit so would not suffer the limitations of size and power consumption in a portable device.
The bandwidth for the input and display would be easily handled over wifi or 3G/4G.

The simplicity of the device would allow use with any base unit, so upgrades to base unit tech, would propagate to the portable device.

Add a simple CPU to handle local login and the device becomes universal.  Anyone can pick up any tablet and login to their base computer since it acts as a simple input/display device.  It would also allow cloud computing.  Imagine logging in to an account on an industrial supercomputer to render cinema quality CGI, or simply running Photoshop, Avid, Premiere, AutoCAD, etc. from a table at Starbucks.
